Your privacy

You can choose to be anonymous. Pick whatever display name you want when joining a room — it does not have to be your real name. No account is required and nothing is stored about you.

Vox does not track you. No analytics cookies are used, no fingerprinting takes place, and your activity is never shared with third parties.

Listening to audio

When you join a room, audio starts automatically. On some browsers you may see a prompt asking you to tap the screen to enable audio — this is a browser security requirement, not a bug.

If you can't hear anything, check that your device volume is not muted and that you haven't accidentally muted the browser tab.

Desktop

Vox works best in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. Safari on Mac is also supported. Keeping your browser up to date gives the best experience.

Make sure your speakers or headphones are not muted and that the correct audio output is selected in your system settings.

Mobile

iPhone and iPad: Use Safari for the best experience — WebRTC support in Safari on iOS is more reliable than in third-party browser apps. Keep your screen on and the browser in the foreground while listening. If audio stops, try tapping the screen once.

Android: Chrome is recommended. Other Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave) also work well.

Screen lock: Locking your screen may pause audio on mobile devices. Keep the screen active if you are actively listening, or place the device somewhere it won't auto-lock.

Microphone on iPhone/iPad: If you are invited to speak and the microphone does not activate, check Settings → Safari → Microphone Access and set it to Ask or Allow. There may also be a setting under Settings → Privacy → Microphone. On Android, check Chrome's site settings or the app permissions in your device settings.

Speaking in a room

By default everyone joins as a listener. To speak, the host needs to invite you to the stage. You can signal that you want to speak by raising your hand — the host will see a notification and can invite you.

Once invited, a notice appears in the controls panel. Click Unmute microphone to start speaking. You can mute and unmute yourself at any time.

Raising your hand

Press the hand button (✋) in the controls panel at the bottom of the screen to raise your hand. The host sees your hand in their host panel and can invite you to speak or decline.

Lower your hand at any time by pressing the same button again. Your hand is also lowered automatically if you are invited to speak or if you leave the room.

Reaction emojis

The controls panel at the bottom of the screen includes emoji buttons for reactions. Tap an emoji to send a reaction that floats up on screen for everyone in the room to see.

There is a short cooldown between reactions to keep things tidy.

Passphrase-protected rooms

Some rooms require a passphrase to join. The host will share this with invited participants. Enter the passphrase on the room page before connecting.

Scheduled rooms

Rooms can be scheduled in advance. The room page shows a countdown until it starts. You can add the room to your calendar app using the Add to calendar button, and subscribe to the calendar or RSS feed from the home page to stay updated on upcoming rooms.
